Hemi engine with ZF HP8 8-speed transmission

Hooking up Chrysler’s Hemi V8 engines to an eight-speed automatic should increase gas mileage and power, but the company reportedly has more coming for the “Eagle” and “Apache” engines (the 5.7 and 6.4 Hemis). Several insiders have now written in to say that the company is exploring different ways to optimize the popular V8s, and that more power appears to be on tap. How much is available is still to be seen — and how much the company will claim is also unknown.

At least one source has claimed that the SRT 6.4 Hemi has been “torque-limited” to prevent damage to the existing powertrain, and will gain some additional torque when it is used with the eight-speed.
