Yesterday was my 63rd birthday. It started out normal, I went to work at 5am and then about 5:45 I get a call from my wife. She was proceeding through a green light and a guy turned in front of her. You can see the results. Our new car. My wife is sore, but okay. Mainly from the seat belt. All things considered, I'd say the the Jeep came through pretty good. The hood is damaged, but the fenders appear to be okay, just the grille headlights etc.

It is good that she walked away.

Let us know what the insurance company decides.

The air bags didn't deploy. She evidently wasn't going fast enough. It was the other person's fault. She had a green light, he just turned in front of her. She didn't have time to stop, it all happened in a blink of an eye. Thankfully she was only going about 20 or so mph at impact.

I thought it was worse because of the reflection on the doors, (I thought there were dents there too). Most important, glad to hear that your wife is ok, a vehicle can be replaced. Second, hopefully they can get the L fixed up and back to you quickly.

Yeah that picture I took isn't the best for reflections. Surprisingly, they drove it up on the rollback. Radiator internally is intact as there wasn't any leaks. My wife is convinced that had she been in some other vehicle she would've been hurt. She always has liked Jeep SUVs because she thinks they're tough. I can't argue with her on that one. I hope too it gets fixed rather quickly, but with some customers waiting on sold orders at the plant I'm not optimistic. There are front end pieces specific to this model, which may or may not help the process.

Glad she's OK! Sorry about the Jeep, that's upsetting especially with such a new vehicle. The Grands do well in accidents from what I've seen. We got rear ended in our old '98 some years back (it has the factory hitch and skid plate) and the only damage was a tab cracked off the 7 way trailer light connector, the other car (older Infinity Q45) had the whole bumper trashed. It was a hard enough hit that I thought it might have had frame damage but nothing.

Jeeps are indeed tough, I got rear-ended in my Liberty four or five times with no damage to speak of. Granted, having the spare tire on the rear door was helpful, like having a built-in bumper up high. I always worried about the rear window breaking because supposedly if you pressed the tire just right, it would flex the door, breaking the window, but thankfully it never happened.

Sorry about the new vehicle, but glad to hear that she walked away. It truly is amazing how far cars have come in terms of safety, the 2012 T&C we owned kept myself and kiddos safe when a drunk driver ran a red light, we all walked away. 🙌

Update. As of today, she is feeling much better. Her bruises are clearing up. The insurance adjuster looked at it and made his damage assessment, and it is now at the collision center. I'm still thinking it will be some time before it's done. She picks her rental up today. I'm wondering what it will be.

For her rental, unless she was able to choose a specific type of vehicle, I’m betting it’ll be a Toyota Corolla. I think it’s the number one punishment device….er…I mean rental car. We had one when we went to Colorado. Bland was not a bland enough word for it.

Last rental Tojo Corolla I had did not even have cruise control. Yes, windows were crank.

I don’t recall too many details, but the zig-zag shifter was annoying. The seating position was terrible. And I felt like I could get out and run faster than it accelerated. To say I was disappointed when I found out what we were getting would be an understatement. But, it did get us from A to B, and that’s what we required.

Another update. She has her rental. We had a choice between a Charger or a Compass. We took a Compass as it's easier for us to get in and out of. And it's a Limited, very well equipped.

A 2.4 Compass or the new 2.0T?

The last rental I had, for a week last month, was a Renegade 80th Anniversary edition. AWD, pretty much loaded except sunroof. Yes, the 2.4/9 speed still sucked but it was finally a Renegade that at least came somewhere close to Jeep’s upmarket image.
