I thought I could attach the two wires from the battery harness to my starter before I installed the starter. That doesn't work. It seems that the wires need to installed behind the exhaust manifold or in-between the last two exhaust ports to get them to the starter.

There is also a clamp on th positive cable, what bolt

Definately not between the exhaust ports.
- im not sure but pretty confident that it goes under the exhaust over to the battery.

I would think that it would be secured away from heat. Along the frame rail? Or down the inner fender sheetmetal.
No good images found and this one is probably a general wiring layout.
The Hemi starter wiring harness is unique and a different part # than the others:
