I like Javelin less for the name recognition and association, and more just because it sounds cool (Dodge Javelin, SRT Javelin, nice ring to them). I would like it, even if there had never been another car named Javelin. Plus, the name association with DART is cool. Dart, Javelin. Javelin, Dart. Pointy things you throw in contests of manliness. Both items are associated with contests of accuracy, form, and skill.

I like AMX, also because it sounds cool (Dodge AMX, SRT AMX), but more because AMX's were totally badass. We had an AMX (1969 IIRC), with the Breedlove red, white and blue, at our high school. Coolness flowed out of that thing in buckets. Just standing near it, you could feel the cool rising from it, and making you cool, just for being in the same vicinity. It even had Panasports. It never raced, because everyone was afraid to take it on.

Didn't know much about it. The only thing I wanted more than that car, at that high school, was Stephanie F.

Uh, Uhm... I gotta go... just remembered something I have to go do real quick.

AMX's are awesome. Two 1974's still in the family since new. 360 Go Package cars one 4 speed and one auto. I could see them using either Javelin or AMX again on the right vehicle.

lol

But if you have never experienced that AMX at your high school, AMX probably wouldn't mean anything to you. Like people who have never heard of SRT.

I have been saying for months that there will be a new Dodge Avenger -- the rear drive version, using an adapted 200 platform, shared with Alfa... and yes, this is the car that used to be called Barracuda...
So you are suggesting the Avenger replacement will be an affordable RWD?

No. Most of the rumors have been that Barracuda will be SRT, not Dodge.

But, those are just rumors and are subject to change.

If you were paying attention to what Dave has been saying, for months, the long rumored Barracuda will be coming, in RWD, shared with Alfa, Dodge will get the four door, and likely call it Avenger, SRT will get the two door and its name is up for grabs, and both will likely be be Beemer 3 series in size, possibly a tad bigger. Dodge could possibly also get the two door.

Well, they need to understand that changing names is bad for business. First you have people that don't buy one because the name is going away, then there are the people that won't buy a new car because the new name hasn't been tested. Look at all the tried and true brands and the name associated with them, like Mustang, Caprice, Civic, Accord, and the list goes on, and they keep selling them just as well as before even though a full platform is changed. Pick a name, keep it, and quit adding and removing the name every six to ten years because of a platform or style change. Avenger is a great name, along with Intrepid, Magnum, Javelin, AMX, and a whole lot more.

Yes, they are, and each and every one of them have gone through major changes over the decades and still keep the same names, thus my point, exactly.

Sorry guys Fury is a Plymouth not a Dodge.

Sorry but Fury is a Plymouth name not a Dodge name. Dahh
And Barracuda is a Plymouth, while AMX and Javelin are AMC models.

But Plymouth and AMC are dead, so why not let some great nameplates live on?

I was thinking about this, again: to me that candidate names are thus, iin no order, (just the order I thunk them up):

Both could be called the Avenger, SRT Avenger, Dodge Avenger, both sound good. Dodge is 4door, SRT is 2door, Barracuda, AMX, Javelin, Fury, Stealth, Daytona
SRT ??? (Add to the list)

Looking at it like this? I like Avenger for both best. Second choice would be Dodge Avenger, SRT AMX. The AMX (until 69 or 70), was just a two seat Javelin (lol, I say just, that is like saying Superman was just a Kryptonian). In that sense it really does Jive with the history. THe AMX model would again, be a shorter version of a larger model.
