Chrysler owned a big chunk of Mitsu in the 1980s. They started selling it and moving on their own as the Viper and LH showed they could make it on their own, if they reorganized. Eventually they split up entirely and Mitsu moved over to, um, Toyota? I think.
In Mexico you can't really exist without that type of car so they rebadged Hyundais, then Mitsubishis, and now for the same reason, another brand.
