Geoff Turk, who just became the first Stock Eliminator/Factory Super Cars racer in history to record an official 7-second elapsed time, with a 7.996 at 170.10 mph at Bradenton, Florida! With that, he will collect a cool $5,000 from the folks at Holley Performance Products.
Excellent news. Is it an official NHRA record? Those are usually set at the Div points meets and there happens to be one this weekend @ Gainsville. I don't know how far that is from Bradenton and whether or not Geoff Turk will be running there.

Now Mopar, Holley, and any other company associated with the effort needs to splatter ads all over the performance industry websites and publications. I'll keep my eyes open when my "National Dragster" issues come. Speed equipment companies often place large ads after a happening such as this. Ford had big full page ads a few years ago when they had the first NHRA legal stockers into the 8's.

Geoff Turk was actually posting on his progress in this motorsports section about a year ago. I haven't seen anything from him lately. I can't remember his avatar right now but Mike V might know if he's still actively posting updates.
I keep up with him on FB. He is very active on FB and wrote a timeline on his racing career from age 15 to now. Totally dedicated mopar man.

Ok guys, Geoff Turk's run got a big headline on at least one drag racing website;

2018 NMCA MUSCLECAR MAYHEM - EVENT COVERAGE | Competition Plus (at http://www.competitionplus.com/CPSportsman/2018-nmca-musclecar-mayhem-event-coverage )

TURK CRACKS THE 7s IN NMCA'S HOLLEY EFI FACTORY SUPER CARS | Competition Plus (at http://www.competitionplus.com/drag-racing/news/turk-cracks-the-7s-in-nmcas-holley-efi-factory-super-cars )

This was a NMCA meet with 22 entries in the "Factory Supercars" category. Turk is the #1 qualifier (over David Barton's NHRA record holding "Brand C") and the #3 qualifier, Joe Welch, in another Challenger, set the top speed @ 171.23. Leah Pritchett had the only other Mopar entry and she qualified 9th @ 8.13. I'm guessing that elims are later today - I'll post results if I see any. I don't normally follow this series as it's mostly Nostalgia SSers but I guess I'm going to have to start paying more attention now. 22 entries is more than have been showing up for NHRA "Factory Stock" showdowns but looks like the payout might be much better here. The article states that if his record holds, Geoff Turk could walk away with $10,000 from Holley regardless of how he does in Elims. That's a fine haul for a doorslammer.

"In Holley EFI Factory Super Cars, Geoff Turk took the lead in qualifying with a 7.99 in his Challenger to become the first driver to break the 7-second barrier in the class, and earn a massive monetary bonus through Holley EFI’s 7-Second Club. He also made it to the final round of eliminations, but Joseph Welch took the win with an 8.02 in his Drag Pak, while Turk took his car through the stripe at 8.12."

Thanks, Tom

Winner AND runner-up - can't beat that. I wonder what it paid, though I doubt it came anywhere close to the $10,000 that Geoff Turk already pocketed. Next weekend is the NHRA Gatornationals @ Gainseville and they will be featuring "Factory Stock" Elim. It'd be great if both Geoff Turk and Joe Welch show up for this event too since they are already in the area.

Joe Welsh in the winner's circle. This event is in the books, and in the record books. 1st run in the 7s, biggest thrash in the history of Stock and the third Dodge on the property is the fastest and wins an all-Dodge final. Holley EFI Factory Supercar on the NMCA series...BE THERE!!! #nmca #dodge #Mopar

The 3/9/18 issue of "National Dragster" is reporting that, among the 31 entries (so far) for Factory Stock Elim at the upcoming NHRA Gatornationals, Allen Johnson is entered in a Drag Pak Challenger backed by Southland Dodge and the Teutons. AJ stated that he is currently planning to run the entire NHRA Factory Stock Elim schedule, which is currently not contested at all NHRA national events.

Still lots of talk, guys, about this eventually becoming the new Pro Stock. I don't know how much TV coverage this class will get - the run schedule shows them racing right after the Pro Stock Motorcycles so I'm going to try to catch them while still trying to boycott watching Pro Stock.

Just read a commit by Turk and he's headed to the Gators next.
He won't be the only one. Allen Johnson also will be running a Drag Pak Challenger in Factory Stock Elim (see my new post on this) at the Gators. There are already 31 entries for the class. I didn't see Joe Welch on the list but NHRA implied that they are still accepting entries.
