I like it overall. The C pillar is too thick and curvy but that’s a problem with nearly all CUV’s. I’m not concerned at all about the interior apeing the Tonale since hardly a soul will even see an Alfa let alone compare it with Dodge. Please, please, please let the launch be smooth!

Interesting that the R/T with Powerboost gets 0-60 in 6.1
The Grand Cherokee 4xe gets 0-60 in 6.0

I really like this as a possible replacement down the road for my 2013 Mazda 3 hatchback. Wonder what the GLH-S will offer?

Makes sense though... the GC and Wrangler 4xe have the more powerful 2.0 Turbo, vs the 1.3 Turbo in this. 375hp and 470 ft lbs vs 285/383 is a big jump.

But, as with the GC and Wrangler 4xe I bet some customers will be able to knock it into the mid to high 5s. Respectable for the non halo model.

Intriguing that they have foregone the ZF 9 speed in favor of a 6 speed for the R/T. Wonder if that's due to lack of a hybrid capable version of the 9spd, or the 9 speed lacking some capability?
She'll talk to you when she wants to ride in ... your... NEW... GLH!!
I'm trying to order a GT but not available to build on the Dodge website.

I like it, sharp little CUV, long overdue vehicle. Be interesting to know what the GLH numbers are. My only wish is that the PHEV is not a standard engine. Like a non spicy PHEV version but hopefully Chrysler brand will have something like that some day.

Dealers are supposed to be able to orders today. As usual, the build and price on the website lags behind.

Thanks for the post Dave, I was following this on "other sites" but did not want to jump in before you did!

My first impression was very good, and I quite like the color they chose for the reveal model. I just wish there had been some interior pics.

The next thing I noticed was that they stuck with the "racing stripes" badge instead of the Fratzog. Interesting...I guess they are saving the Fratzog for special editions or full EVs. But honestly the racing stripes look great by themselves, and one wonders why Dodge hasn't been using that as the emblem this whole time.
THANK YOU!!

Here's my personal writeup, in the allpar style.

2023 Dodge Hornet: hot compact crossover

I think the fratzog is for BEVs.

I have interior pics on this page. I also have a summary. It's a neat little story if I say so myself. I had to read through a bunch of releases to grab the actual facts. Next, after lunch, I will see if it's on the Build & Price system and add a bit more. They didn't seem to release the model comparison in as much detail as usual. I might have missed it.

My dislike is the dark theme. Only black interiors. Only black photography! There's no reason for the logo to be so dark in the photo unless it's actually a black chrome.

The concept variant is the Hornet with Mopar Performance goodies.
I really like this. Impressive specs for the price. The looks of don't really do anything for me, but I don't dislike it. I'll wait to test drive one but right now I plan to order a GT with track pack.

My only complaint is we should have had this 6 years ago. And the Dart should have had a refresh then with these power trains as options.

Put that GT setup in a Compass....that would be one nice Small SUV.

That’s a Stelvio interior. The Tonale is nearly identical to the Hornet inside.
Glad to see new product for Dodge at long last, but disappointed in the lack of differentiation from the Tonale. Frankly, the Charger and 300 are better differentiated than the CUVs, inside and out. This level of sharing could make sense for regional products that don't overlap (e.g., Chrysler and Citroen), but for two vehicles in the same market? Why pay a premium for the Alfa? Was hoping for more VW/Audi and less Chevy/GMC.

Ironically to me at least, that front clip looks like a Mitsu!
I like the specs and approach, but I agree, looks more like a Mitsubishi or something. Maybe it is the rear styling?

I'll wait to see one in person.

Why would anyone buy the Tonale when they can get essentially the same vehicle, for much cheaper by buying the Dodge?

Sweet looking compact SUV. Not a big fan of the huge wheels and (practically) rubber-band tires. 235/40ZR20????

Granted, that's on the R/T and I can't get a good enough view of the GT tires to see if they are any different.

EDIT: and the pictured GT could be fitted with optional, larger wheels. I would prefer something closer to a 235/55 or 235/50 on a 19-in wheel.

In this case, I don't think hybrid capability applies as only the rear wheels are electrified on the R/T.

FWD versions of the Compass (and older FWD-only pre-facelift Renegades) use an Aisin 6spd auto, while AWD versions use the ZF 9spd.

There could be a case made for cost savings with a cheaper transmission that lacks the provisions for a transfer case/PTU for AWD.

Granted, the FWD Cherokee (and facelifted Renegade) also uses the ZF 9spd....

I'm speculating of course. The FWD Compass (and now the Hornet) are the only "users" of an Aisin 6spd; everything else uses the 9spd.
Why would anyone buy the Tonale when they can get essentially the same vehicle, for much cheaper by buying the Dodge?
Unless I missed something, the Tonale has not been priced for the North American market yet. What if they price it at the same level as the Hornet?

I think the rear would be improved with a “hidden hatch” ala the Dodge Shadow. Other than that it’s a good product—one we were promised a decade ago or more. Still not complaining. Actually really looking forward to the BEV variant—hope it’s base price is within reach
