Dodge accidentally put the wrong front wheels onto 173 Dodge Challengers and Chargers, which can cause the front tire to rub against the steering knuckle. FCA will replace the front wheels and, if needed, the front tires, and then do an alignment (if needed), under recall VB0. This recall, expected to start in mid-December, will, like all recalls, be done at no cost to owners.
Is this one of the cars? Probably not
The vehicles in question—62 Challengers, 111 Chargers—were made from May 28, 2019 until September 20 (Challenger) or September 25 (Charger). It only impacts vehicles with the “mid gloss black wheel,” part 5LD37RXFAA, with a certain brake package. Other cars can have the same wheel without being subject to the recall, because they have different brake packages. The combination of this wheel and brake, in FCA’s words, “should not have been an available option.”
The problem was discovered by Brampton workers on September 13, who noticed a tire too close to the steering knuckle on some cars. An investigation started on September 18, concluding on the 27th. As of mid-October, FCA US had not spotted any field reports of the issue.
