Pipe dream or real? Until I see it here, I will remain skeptical that being said, it's stunning for sure!
That is sort of cool if it ever becomes reality though nothing I could ever afford .
The only things currently known are that it will be FMR layout, it will share with a similar, but distinct, Alfa and Maserati. It will be a diledicated, high-ultra high performance car, two seat, and it will likely benchmark the very quickest street cars on the planet, and it will NOT have a V10.

2021 is the earliest. Most of smarter folks are expecting it in 2022/3.

F=Engine in front of driver
M=Engine is Mid-fully within the wheelbase
R=The Rear wheels are driven

Isn't this the same fake photo we saw a while back?

I had people come up to me at work today and ask if I saw the new Viper because it was "officially" confirmed. This kind of crap gets on my nerves, especially when Car and Driver doesn't explicitly state that it's a rendering. Most of the vehicles on their "25 cars worth waiting for" list right now are renderings that I'm 99% sure have no basis in reality.

I know this term is overused, but this is exactly how fake news gets started.

No way this gets released anytime before calendar 2022.

I'm fairly sure it won't be called the Viper either.

That's a more realistic timeline... Charger and Challenger must be the priority right now since the are the face of Dodge.

Speaking for myself....(and I am unanimous in this);).....I prefer to wait for official confirmation. I've had enough of getting my hopes up....only to see them crash on the rocky shore of reality.

If FCA's talking about a potentially $140,000 or so Grand Wagoneer, reinvigorating the Viper should not be a challenge.
Head of Jeep Brand: Jeep Grand Wagoneer Could Cost “$130,000 to $140,000” (at http://bestride.com/news/industry-news/jeep-grand-wagoneer-2018-pricing )

That said, Car and Driver has shown their spots:
The 2018 Ram Rebel Is a Car Worth Waiting For | Feature | Car and Driver (at https://www.caranddriver.com/features/the-2018-ram-rebel-is-a-car-worth-waiting-for-feature )
"Look for it at the end of the year with an opening price of $55,000"
("the year" being, 2017)

So, consider the source.

That said, I hope they do call it the Viper. It has a proud legacy and the only reason I can think of to not use that name is if the appearance is a significant departure from previous generations. I have always liked the appearance of the Viper, but it was ceding a fair amount of performance to competitors, so it was due for a work over. I would like to see a return of the Viper, but I won't trust Car & Driver to be the one telling me about it. They were way wrong before. Like, hilariously, ludicrously wrong. If the project, whatever they intend to call it, is looking at a 2022/2023 release, it is way to soon to have any reliable information disseminated about it. Even if the information found were true, this early in the process, it is subject to many, many changes making remarking on those details an effort in futility.

I have seen some reputations be denigrated for posting information that "turned out to be false" - maybe. It could also be that the leak was true at the time, but conditions, or decisions changed and what was once true, became untrue through the process of design, engineering, manufacturing, etc. ALLPARt of the fun, but four years ahead of a project, don't fall in love with any rumors.

All is subject to change.

Someone must have confused the Viper with the new Dodge Vapor, which is always 2 years away from being launched. :p

Well whenever it comes I dont understand why they just dont supercharge or turbo charge the v10 instead of using the v8 like other dodges, no one is using a v10 except lamborghini to have a supercharged v10 ala hellcat supercharger with 850 hp or twin turbo charged the viper v10 ala dodge stealth with the first 1000 hp factory car would be outstanding and a true halo car. just my 02. cents

The old V10 was hitting it's limits to stay smog legal, IIRC. Plus the cost of a one off engine was hurting the Viper's already lofty price. Tough to justify a new V10 when people aren't willing to pay the premium needed to develop and manufacture it. The V10 was legendary. An all new supercharged 426 would be a worthy replacement (in a bellowing shriek straight from hell itself kind of way:)).

I was led to believe that FCA lost money on every Viper they managed to sell. I think putting resources into vehicles that make a profit would be a better direction to go.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Not when C&D think they know a bunch of rumours.

Reading this quote from their article was pretty funny:
Not many details have surfaced yet, but trust us: A new Viper is happening.

Anybody know what kind of numbers a twin turbo charged 426 would make.
