I have a neighbor who recently purchased a 1997 Ram 1500 4WD. It has the 5.9L Magnum V8. He had a local shop do a tune up on it, the plug wires are Standard ignition and are 7mm wires. I was under the impression that most newer engines used 8mm wires due to the voltage output of the ignition systems. I have the Mopar PNs, but nothing really gives the size.

Should this truck have 8mm plug wires?

I don't believe it will make a noticeable difference either way.

I just looked up an aftermarket set and they show 7mm also. I guess I am too used to Ford systems, everything from the mid 70s with the Duraspark II and TFI use 8mm wires and they can still arc through. GM same way with the HEI.

Thanks for the reply!
