While attending the opening days of the 2020 Chicago Auto Show last week, I noticed that there were Power Dollars signs next to a Challenger and Charger. We had initially reported back in January that the Power Dollars program had been extended through the end of January, but upon seeing the signs in McCormick Place, we confirmed with the folks from Dodge that the program had been extended into the beginning of March.

Earlier today, some social media posts citing dealership input claimed that the Power Dollars program was being extended into the 2020 model year. We reached out to the folks at Dodge once again and they confirmed that the current Power Dollars program only applies to 2019 model year Challenger and Charger.

One of the social media posts talking about the Power Dollars program claimed that 2020 model year vehicles would be included in the program starting in March. However, when we asked Dodge about that, we received the reply of “we don’t discuss future product plans”. In other words, we were unable to confirm that Power Dollars would be offered for the 2020 model year any time soon, as right now, the program is being used to move the last of the 2019 model year vehicles.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see Power Dollars return later in the year for the 2020 Challenger and Charger, but we would be really surprised to see the price-slashing program implemented so soon in the year – especially with the Charger selling strong with the introduction of the new widebody models.

The bottom line is that for now, the 2019 Challenger and Charger are still subject to the $10-per-horsepower discount program. In the Metro Detroit area, there are currently two 2019 Challenger Hellcat Redeye Widebodys, a standard-width Redeye and a 717-horsepower standard-width Hellcat. There are also three Hellcat Chargers in the Detroit area, so just as an example, Detroiters can still save more than $7,000 on a Hellcat-powered Dodge at their local dealership.
