For decades, Chrysler let you program a spare remote fob by using the other two. I could not find instructions for this in the 2013, did they drop that?

Also, did they drop the "unlock button lowers the windows" thing from the fobs, that they just gave us in 2011?

? Can you explain that more? On our Chrysler, press once to unlock the driver's door only, twice to unlock all doors. I wasn't aware of any related window function.

I've read there was a way to do this and tried it on my 2012 Challenger. It didn't work, but I may have used the wrong button sequence.

Bob, if you press the unlock button on the remote then immediately press the unlock button again and hold it down, the front windows will be lowered as long as you hold the buttom down. It's in the owner's manual somewhere - I think under power windows or fob. We can do this on our 2010 Journey. Wife discovered it by accident. Kind of nice on hot summer days. Not sure about your 200.

Dave - as far as programming additional fobs, there should be a procedure in the owner's manual. We can programm up to 8 fobs for both my 2006 Ram and our 2010 Journey. As long as you have all the keys you should be able to do it yourself - no dealer needed. If one is missing though, you have to go to the dealer. I'd be surprised of they dropped it. Oops! That was only for our Ram and 2009 Journey - not the 2010. The '10 manual indicates going to the dealer. So maybe they did take it out.....

ADDENDUM:
Remote Open Window Feature
This feature allows you to remotely lower both front door
windows at the same time. To use this feature, press and
release the UNLOCK button on the RKE transmitter and
then immediately press and hold the UNLOCK button
until the windows lower to the level desired or until they
lower completely.

Customer Key Programming (2009 Journey)
If you have two valid RKE transmitters with integrated
keys, you can program new transmitters to the system by
performing the following steps:
1. Insert the first valid integrated key into the ignition
switch and turn the ignition switch to the ON position for
at least three seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds.
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and
remove the first key.
2. Insert the second valid integrated key and turn the
ignition switch to the ON position within 15 seconds.
After 10 seconds, a chime will sound and the Vehicle
Security Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch
to the LOCK position and remove the second key.
3. Insert a blank integrated key into the ignition switch
and turn the ignition switch to the ON position within 60
seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will sound and
the Vehicle Security Light will stop flashing, turn on
again for three seconds, and then turn off.

The new integrated key is programmed. The RKE transmitter
will also be programmed during this procedure.
Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys. If you
do not have a programmed RKE transmitter with integrated
key, contact your authorized dealer for details.
NOTE: If a programmed key is lost, see your authorized
dealer to have all remaining keys erased from the system’s
memory. This will prevent the lost key from
starting your vehicle. The remaining keys must then be
reprogrammed. All vehicle keys must be taken to an
authorized dealer at the time of service to be reprogrammed.

That does not work on my 2012 Challenger. Nor does the push once to unlock then quickly push and hold to lower the windows. I wonder if it disappered in 2012 on some cars?

If it's not under the Remote Key functions in the owner's manual, then it probably doesn't have the feature.

To be honest, we don't use the Remote Open Window Feature often - mainly because we both forget about it.

It's disappointing to see the key programming go away. I hate having to go to the dealer for everything. I can understand having to go the dealer if one key is lost or stolen, but now I need to go to the dealer if I just want to add one or more extra keys?

The window feature does not work on the 2012 Chrysler 200; or it's deactivated in the programming. The salesman did activate and deactivate some features of the alarm via the key fob.

Will check the owner's manual. I think it's possible.

Key fob unlocks driver's door first, then all doors if pressed twice. No window open is mentioned, or happens when I try the above.

There's a remote start button, we have never used it.

I just learned this: You have to press the lock button first, then close the door, to set the alarm. We've been locking it after all doors closed; that apparently doesn't set the alarm.

The fob can also be programmed to sound the horn and/or flash the lights when locking, etc. There is no mention of programming additional keys in the 2012 Chrysler 200 user guide.

I downloaded a 2012 200 Owner's Manual - check page 17:

Customer Key Programming
You can program new keys to the system if you have two
valid Sentry Keys by performing the following procedure:
1. Cut the additional Sentry Key Transponder blank(s)
to match the ignition switch lock cylinder key code.
2. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch. Turn
the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position for at least
three seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds. Then, turn
the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the
first key.
3. Insert the second valid key into the ignition switch.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within
15 seconds. After ten seconds, a chime will sound. In
addition, the Vehicle Security Light will begin to flash.
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and
remove the second key.
4. Insert a blank Sentry Key into the ignition switch.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within
60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will sound.
In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will stop flashing.
To indicate that programming is complete, the indicator
light will turn on again for three seconds and then turn
off.
The new Sentry Key is programmed. The Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter will also be programmed
during this procedure.

Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys. If you
do not have a programmed Sentry Key contact your
authorized dealer for details.
NOTE: If a programmed key is lost, see your authorized
dealer to have all remaining keys erased from the systems
memory. This will prevent the lost key from starting
your vehicle. The remaining keys must then be reprogrammed.
All vehicle keys must be taken to your authorized
dealer at the time of service to be reprogrammed.

"I just learned this: You have to press the lock button first, then close the door, to set the alarm. We've been locking it after all doors closed; that apparently doesn't set the alarm."

Bob - check page 19 of your owner's manual - it should arm the system whether or not the door(s) are open with the remote. If you're using the switch on the door, yes, that door must be open. If it does not appear to do so, I'd have the dealer check it:

To Arm The System
1. Remove the keys from the ignition switch and get out
of the vehicle.
2. Lock the door using either the power door lock switch
(one door must be open) or the LOCK button on the
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter (doors can be
open or closed), and close all doors.
NOTE: The Vehicle Security Alarm will not arm if you
lock the doors with the manual door lock plungers.
3. The Vehicle Security Light in the instrument cluster
will flash for 16 seconds. This shows that the Vehicle
Security Alarm is arming. During this period, if a door is
opened, the ignition switch is turned to ON/RUN, or the
power door locks are unlocked in any manner, the
Vehicle Security Alarm will automatically disarm.
NOTE:
• During the 16-second arming period, if a door is
opened or the ignition switch is turned to ON/RUN,
the Vehicle Security Alarm will automatically disarm.
• Once armed, the Vehicle Security Alarm disables the
unlock switch on the driver door trim panel and
passenger door trim panel, the trunk release button on
the instrument panel, and the HomeLink/Garage
Door Opener (if equipped).

Key Fob is on page 8 and describes Door lock/unlock, remote start and panic alarm and trunk.
Key Fob Programmable Features is on page 57 and describes Unlock, Auto Unlock and Sound Horn with Lock.

What you describe is not in the paper copy of the 2012 Chrysler 200 User Guide. I've read the entire book cover to cover.

Bob - I looked at the owner's manual - not the user's guide. There is a difference.

You can access the owner's manual online by going to www.Chrysler.com, then click on "owners". Then look for owners manual on the bottom. You can then use the drop down windows to download the manual for the vehicle you need. You do not have to log in.

Thanks. Should I assume it will still work in the 2013s? (What have I got to lose but a $120 key fob?)
I don't see why not. The verbage concerning programming additional keys is the same as that in my 2006 Dodge Ram SLT owner's manual. It's also the procedure we used to add an additional key to our 2009 Journey SXT before we traded it in.

Below is from my 2006 Ram owner's manual:

Customer Key Programming
You can program new keys to the system if you have two
valid keys by doing the following:
1. Insert the first valid key into the ignition and turn the
ignition to the ON position for at least 3 seconds but no
longer than 15 seconds. Turn the ignition back to the OFF
position and remove the first key.
2. Insert the second valid key and switch the ignition to
the ON position within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds the
Security Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition back
to the OFF position and remove the second key.
3. Insert a blank Sentry Key into the ignition and switch
the ignition to the ON position within 60 seconds of
having removed the second key. After 10 seconds the
Security Light will stop flashing, then turn on for 3
seconds; then turn off.
The new Sentry Key has been programmed. The Keyless
Entry Transmitter will also be programmed during this
procedure. Repeat this process to program up to an
additional 6 keys. A maximum of 8 keys can be programmed
to the system, including the original keys
provided with the vehicle.

Strange. I wonder why there would be an owner's manual AND a user guide, since the user guide seems to have absolutely everything in it that any owner's manual has always had.

I think the user's guide is common information the owner probably needs to know immediately whereas the owner's manual is more in depth.
