I am going to change the fluids in both front and rear differentials tonight, my question is what is the proper way to reseal it with rtv, do I put a bead on the diff cover and around the bolts and put.it on and fill it or do I evenly apply to both surfaces then close it up and fill?

Clean the remaining old RTV from the mating surfaces, remove all traces of hypoid oil and seal the pan side with ~ 1/8" bead of sealer around the bolt holes.

Mopar makes a red RTV specially formulated to seal differentials and other components using 75W-90. Other RTV's may break down.

You can probably find better prices than this.
