The 2021 Ram ProMaster looks the same outside, but it has some nifty upgrades, unveiled at “The Work Truck Show®” in Indianapolis.

The headline news for 2021 ProMasters is a class-exclusive digital rearview mirror (optional), which swaps a 9.2 inch wide LCD monitor into the place usually taken by an ordinary glass mirror. It shows video from a rear-facing camera, and can, if desired, be switched back to old-fashioned “reflecting what’s behind you” mode. It’s especially handy on models with a solid wall between driver and cargo.   Available on all ProMaster trims, the new digital mirror helps drivers and prevents accidents.

For 2021, the formerly optional Crosswind Assist is now standard; it helps the driver keep their van stable in the face of wind gusts.

Moving forward with the times, the 2021 ProMaster will have two key safety options: Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Path Alerts, and Forward Collision Warning with Emergency Brake Assist.  Both help keep vans undented and in service, and avoid pesky repair bills and injuries. The forward collision warning setup can use partial braking to mitigate a collision, but the driver still has to hit the brakes to come to a full stop.

LED ambient/courtesy lights are optional on all ProMasters, and are handy for upfitters and mobile offices.

2021 promaster commercial van

The Ram ProMaster is aimed squarely at vocational use; based on the Fiat Ducato, it was thoroughly reworked under the skin by Ram engineers in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The suspension was upgraded and toughened, an American powertrain made the default, and creature comforts added. The goal was an ideal van for construction job sites and commercial fleets.

The 2021 Ram ProMaster will be available in 18 different wheelbase and roof height configurations. All use Chrysler’s proven 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission.

Class-exclusive front wheel drive helps with traction in the snow and rain, by keeping engine weight over the driven wheels. “Best in class” features include the standard V6 engine, the tightest turning radius, tallest standard interior cargo height, lowest load-floor height, widest cargo width between wheel wells, and widest overall cargo width.
