FCA has announced that for the fifth year in a row, the automotive festival that is Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge will be held at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan, but new for 2019, the event will be extended to two days. While the legal street racing on Detroit’s Woodward Avenue will only be held on Saturday (August 10 th ), Roadkill Nights will open on Friday (August 9 th ) to spectators, show vehicles and racers preparing for Saturday, marking the first time that the event will be held on more than one day.
“Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge continues to grow each year since we introduced this event five years ago, so we’re answering enthusiast demand by adding a day of fun so even more people can participate in the celebration of America's muscle car culture,” said Mark Malmstead – Head of Dodge//SRT Marketing. “It’s also a great opportunity for participants to race in a sanctioned environment on historic Woodward Ave.”
Roadkill Nights Attractions
While the main event of the Roadkill Nights by Dodge every year is the drag racing program, there is far more to do than just race or watch racing. Dodge has an incredible thrill ride area where spectators can go for a high-speed, tire-smoking ride in a Hellcat Challenger or Charger with a pro driver, but the sponsoring brand also has new vehicles on display, apparel for sale, giveaway booths, a virtual Demon drag race area in actual Demons and many other brand-themed attractions.
Of course, with Roadkill Nights being hosted by the crew of the Roadkill show, co-hosts David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan will be on-site with a spread of their unique vehicular concoctions, Chris Jacobs of MotorTrend’s Overhaulin’ will serve as the emcee, NHRA announcer Brian Lohnes will be emceeing the racing program and NHRA stars Leah Pritchett and Matt Hagan will be in attendance with their race cars.
"Roadkill Nights truly brings the thrill of finger-clenching, top-speed drag racing to life on Woodward Avenue, which is why we love to bring this event to our Roadkill fans,” Freiburger said. “Going on our fifth year, we’re adding activities on Friday night so there’s more time for everyone — drag racers, families, foodies and anyone who is looking to have a great day or evening filled with unparalleled fun at an iconic location.”
Finally, in addition to everything and everyone listed above, there will be a spread of food trucks along with an area full of bounce houses and other fun for the kids.
From the legal street racing to the thrill rides to the family-friendly areas, there is truly nothing in the world like the Roadkill Nights by Dodge event in Metro Detroit. While it is Dodge-heavy, it is open to all brands, so this is the kind of event that every gearhead can enjoy.
Drag Racing Program
The key attraction of every Roadkill Nights event in Detroit is the legal street racing on Woodward Ave, with the field being split into the Big Tire and Small Tire classes. Each class will have a $15,000 total payout, with the winner taking home $5,000, $1,500 for second place and $750 each for each of the two semifinalists and $500 for each of the four quarter-finalists. Also, the fastest Dodge in each class will get $5,000.
Registration for the racing program is $100, but there is an application process that you can check out by clicking here . For the first Roadkill Nights event, there were a bunch of trashy vehicles racing that had no business being there – they had just come out because it was free. Since then, the event has an application process and a fee, both of which run off vehicles and drivers who don’t belong in the program. Realistically, the racing field has not been full in each of the past two years, so if you have a reasonably quick vehicle in good shape, and you have racing experience, the odds are good that you will be accepted.
Roadkill Prices
When Roadkill Nights first started five years ago at the now-demolished Pontiac Silverdome, it was free for spectators, show vehicles and racers. Sadly, that is no longer the case. The basic spectator ticket costs $10 each day with kids 12-and-under being free, but if you want to reserve a seat in the grandstands for Saturday’s drag racing program, adult tickets are $40 and kids tickets are $25. If you want to bring your show vehicle in for the Show-N-Shine, it is $80, which includes vehicle entry, a driver and one adult passenger, for Saturday only, so with daily tickets costing $10, the Show-N-Shine pass essentially costs $60 on its own.
If you are a hardcore Roadkill show fan, you can opt for the $80 Roadkill Fan Package, which includes entry for both days and a bag full of limited edition Roadkill merchandise and if you are an insane fan of the show and the event, you can pay $300 for the Ultimate Package. This includes VIP access for two Dodge thrill rides without the long wait in line, VIP parking, the bag full of Roadkill stuff, entry for both days for two adults, a personal meet-and-greet with David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan and reserved seating for two adults in the grand stands.
However, if you have a Dodge vehicle and you act quickly, you can sign up for one of the free 150 Dodge Show-N-Shine spots, but they go quick, so as soon as you read this, you will want to sign up by clicking here .
