I'm replacing the starter on my '74 Chrysler 440. The sheet-metal seal/shim (that fits between the starter and bell housing) is slightly bent, as shown in photo below.
I don't know if this got bent when I removed the previous starter, or long ago.
Is it O.K. to use this as is? My factory - not Haynes etc. - manual states that, besides keeping oil and dirt out, the seal provides the electrical ground to the engine. If this thingamajig were bent more badly, or kinked, I'd just replace it.
