In Baseball, there's an old expression that goes something like: "Hit 'Em Where They Ain't"...the idea being to try hitting the ball to where there isn't as much defense (or in this case, competition)

Since both the former FCA and Groupe PSA have pretty much bombed out in China.....might as well establish new beachheads in other world regions, like the plant in South Africa recently announced.

Nice work Ma STLA. Keep it up!

Parts of Africa are likely to do reasonably well in the future as the next low-cost manufacturing centers.

This popped up on my Instagram feed

I also think Africa holds a great deal of potential.

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Renault already have a footprint established in quite a few parts of the African continent?

The French part of Stellantis must be behind Fiat's return to Algeria.

It makes sense. I assume Peugeot is already there. That might mean Jeep showing up eventually.

Renault has the only other auto plant in Algeria. The Stellantis plant will be located near the Renault plant since the logistics are established and some suppliers can be shared that operate there.

It will be Fiats because it is the cheap brand in the Stellantis portfolio and Algeria is an emerging market.

Citroën is "the cheap brand" as well. But Fiat is the stronger brand worldwide and has capable vehicles to share with South America. And if we can trust the video, the cultural bonds between Algeria and Italy are good?
Citroên is the cheap brand now?

It used to occupy a premium positioning...
Decades ago, their big cars (DS) were funky and expensive, the small cars (2CV) were cheap and practical. Like they were for most brands. But Citroën wasn't premium as a brand. Now it got split into cheap aka core = Citroën / premium = DS.

Ah!.......But you forget that Algeria has long historical ties with Italy as well.
That fact was referenced in the promotional video above.
