TFL broke a Hornet!?

Looks like when TFL did their 3 wheel slip test the Hornet GT didn't like it. Not a good sign at all.

It shows a flaw in development and testing. Hopefully they update procedures from this.

I am aware of how the software on these vehicles works and what the issue is that causes this. It's much easier to call out something that most do not understand and create "negative press"...it's America let's be honest. I fully understand why someone would be put off by something like this though.

In a day of modern vehicles, multiple VSSs, CAN systems, yaw sensors etc., the way a vehicle's safety logic kicks in is not something uncontrollable.
I’m with you on this one.

There are refinements & updates in the pipeline. Everything new has a learning curve.
The Hornet (GG) is basically a sound lauch. The press will have haters, it is SOP for click-baiters.

So, there is no fix. Just a delay while they sell them to the public.

And Moparinsiders is already sharing this on their FB page. It begins. The Hornet is screwed before it’s out of the gates.

I was merely pointing the fact that there is a distinction between the vehicle release and the proposed patch release. You stated that you cannot buy the vehicle till then, and there was no indication that it was based on your opinion that you cannot buy said vehicle because of the patch.

This may come as a shock, but this is very much normal procedure for automakers these days. I haven’t had a vehicle in 3 years now that escaped needing a software patch of some sort within the first year of ownership. All but one has required multiple updates.

They mask what they’re doing in the updates pretty well under terms like “usability improvements” but it’s all things like what’s coming for the Hornet. Some cars can do it OTA while others get done at the next service. If it relatively easy for all of these warning lights to be set off in the Hornet then I’d say that Q4 release of an update is just sad. Hopefully it has to be a relatively unique set of circumstances so this doesn’t become a rampant poor consumer experience.

So this test (I still haven't watched the video) sounds like a good test of the ABS, traction control, and stability control system integrations.
And stability control has been a required feature for several years. It's sounding more and more to me likely sloppy testing in development, not pre-production bugs.

6 months to fix something that will turn your AWD into a FWD and alarms all over the dash.

There will be a lot of Hornets sitting at dealer lots or a lot of one-and-done customers.

Depends on if it’s easy to trigger or not. These Hornets will be going for full road tests in the coming months, we’ll see if it happens to anyone outside of these roller tests.

If the only way to trigger it is to have three wheels with little grip and one wheel with full grip, then we will see what happens when people stomp on it under wet type conditions.

I live up here in the Northeast, that happens all the time in the winter here. Heck even in the fall: wet, dead leaves act an awful lot like ice sometimes.

A couple years ago Subaru recalibrated its AWD settings following a roller test from TFL.

TFL remains blacklisted from Subaru press events, due to some infantile situation many years ago. But that’s another story.

It wasn't infantile...on TFL's side anyway. Subaru marketed their vehciles as rough and ready rough roader etc etc. So TFL called them on it. They weren't supposed to actually try and test their marketing buzzwords IRL ;)

My dad still loves Subaru but he's more realistic about it than...well, Subaru

That wasn't the reason Subaru blacklisted TFL.

But yeah, TFL has been vocal about Subaru's self-proclaimed "off-road capability."

Yeah, they "damaged" it by putting it through an offroad test that, if it lived up to their marketing, shouldn't have damaged it. But either way I don't see them ever making up because Subaru won't give up their marketing and TFL won't give up their testing.

Too bad, I would love to see a Forester Turbo come back. Good competition for the Hornet. Though now we've got the Escape ST-Line (Ninja edit, not awake yet) out there too....wouldn't mind seeing that compared with the Hornet by someone (maybe Ben Hardy?)

I have driven a couple of Focus STs over the years. And ridden in two Focur RS'. The RSs were just insane (both had been pumped up even more) and the STs really fun. The one I liked the best was the Fiesta ST however. It was just a scream......it was like putting on a roller skate.

In a world where even a Civic is 184 inches long, a really fun small car that can seat 4 in a pinch was so refreshing.
