The 2014 SRT Viper TA (Time Attack)
The 2014 SRT Viper TA (Time Attack) was created by Chrysler's SRT division working with road-race drivers. The very-limited-edition TA is street-legal but ready to run.
"The new 2014 SRT Viper TA is being engineering for the dedicated track enthusiast, who still wants to drive to the track and take their hobby to the next level," said SRT CEO Ralph Gilles. "We're re-launching some of the fastest production-built cars that people can buy straight from the factory. Our engineers revised the suspension settings to refocus the Viper specifically for track duty, using a blend of components from the GTS and the SRT models, add in the extensively developed aero package and the new Time Attack package is born."
Viper TAs with the exclusive Crusher Orange paint will have TA logos behind both front wheels, a Stryker logo on the front fascia, and matte black, lightweight Sidewinder II wheels. The TA is set apart by an advanced exterior aerodynamics package with carbon fiber front splitters, rear spoiler, and rear applique.
The 2014 TA package leverages the Viper's light weight, low center of gravity, 50/50 weight distribution, and the largest contact patch of any production car.
The suspension on the Viper TA was upgraded and tuned for on-track usage, with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. A two-mode Bilstein Damptronic suspension has firmer damping and a smaller spread between modes than the current Viper GTS.
Dampers, springs, and stabilizer bars have been retuned, while the aluminum X-brace was replaced with a lighter carbon fiber brace.
To harness the power of the 8.4-liter, V-10 engine (640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque), Brembo and SRT are working on a system that increases thermal capacity and optimizes heat dissipation, with black anodized calipers.
In November 2013, Chrysler added that the car has new Brembo two-piece, 32-mm-wide high-thermal-capacity rotors and pads. The carbon fiber front splitters and rear spoiler boost downforce up to 7 times more at 150 mph.
The curb weight was determined to be 3,390 pounds.
Inside, the TA uses Sabelt ballistic fabric racing seats that can accommodate 3- or 6-point harnesses. The standard black interior includes Crusher Orange accent stitching on many surfaces.
Very few of the cars are planned - 93 in "TA Orange," 33 in black, and 33 in white. It is due to arrive at dealerships before the end of 2013.
