We knew this was coming :-(
Yeah I'm sure someone dropping $100,000 on a car is going to be deterred by a 2% tax. From the article...
"Along with being a drag on the automaker's fleet fuel economy, buyers of Hellcat-powered Challengers and Chargers currently have to pay a gas guzzler tax upward of $2,100 per car." This hurts the customer and in turn the car maker as well.
Lets not forget the insanely strict emissions they have to follow.
Your average car won't have high horsepower!!Fox News: 2 paragraph story and 30 pages of comments.
Dodge’s excuse is that performance made them do it. That’s a fair statement as Tesla plaid will smoke a hellcat. There is a limit to how much power you can get out of the hellcat engine before it has a 30 day 0 mile warranty. Another site hinted at 1300+ hp capability out of dodges projected electric systems.
honestly, if In 10 years the average family sedan was leaving you in the dust in your brand new $100,000 hellcat, would you be buying one?
The government is not getting rid of land lines and cable tv.
We are.
True. But for me part of the experience has always been the glorious noise associated with a high performance car, be it a Lamborghini or a 440-6 Charger R/T or a Hellcat. I love the sound of ICE and a Supercharger whine. And don't tell me they can pipe in artificial sound. I don't want that. All I know is now I really need to win the lottery before the end of the line.Fox News: 2 paragraph story and 30 pages of comments.

not just the horsepower, how the power is delivered…Your average car won't have high horsepower!!
I’m not picking on you at all, but you’re profile shows you have the wrangler 4xe. Why choose that over the 392? Or the NA pentastar?True. To me, Teslas, no matter how fast, will always be just be a soulless appliance.
NP. We bought the 4XE because it was a mutual decision with my wife and the budget would not extend to a 392. It's pretty fast in it's own right and being a PHEV, it's not a pure electric. It works for us because we can do the majority of our drudge drives in electric while I can also have some fun with it in Hybrid mode. I'm not a COMPLETE Luddite, ya know. Only a partial one. LOL.I’m not picking on you at all, but you’re profile shows you have the wrangler 4xe. Why choose that over the 392? Or the NA pentastar?
I was Very close to buying a hellcat when I got my 392. I may still buy one, when prices are right. i do love them. But I’m also very interested in what the future holds.
Yeah I doubt first time drivers or my grandmother would want something that high horsepower regardless lol.Your average car won't have high horsepower!!
not just the horsepower, how the power is delivered…
Car and driver tested a 2000 toyota celica 1/4 mile at 13.3 seconds. Same as 1970 hemi challenger. It’s just one example, and arguing the testing won’t help. im certain the Toyota delivered that time quieter, more comfortably, using Less gas, etc. And I believe Toyota found far more customers for their car than dodge did.
Sixteen years a 'good run' - - compared to only fiive for 'gen-one' Challengers. Where can you (legally) drive 700+ HP cars anyway? Lest we forget there are NO Challengers in NASCAR or (NHRA) Pro Stock - etc. Suppose good news out of all this is discontinuation of Camaros.RIP Hellcats 2015-2024. Man these cars will be a future classics just like the B-Body Chargers and Roadrunners of the good ol’ days.
And many don’t care about the noise, just the sense of speed. So there’s two sides of the story.True. Yup. And when it comes down to it, how different is a carefully tuned, digitally enhanced exhaust from a well-played audio coming over the speakers? And many don’t care about the noise, just the sense of speed. So there’s two sides of the story.
Like an Impossible Burger made with plants - it's FAKE.Yup. And when it comes down to it, how different is a carefully tuned, digitally enhanced exhaust from a well-played audio coming over the speakers?
Ask a silly question......Get a silly answer.Where can you (legally) drive 700+ HP cars anyway?
