You could have the M6 or a manual transmission. Both shift into reverse the same way. Depress the clutch, pull lever towards you and then up. Tell us what is not happening. If the lever does not pull back towards you with a return spring feel, then you probably have a linkage issue. Grinding, probably have a clutch issue. Link may help.
