Howdy,
I'm a New Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep salesman in a small midwestern town. I have a 1989 Ramcharger that I have owned for years that I am going to make into a Mud Run truck. My first race (completely stock) will be October 7th. I have access to a great supply of parts but I don't have access to a great supply of knowlege. My most experianced Mechanic here is 28 and schooled in the new stuff. Can out diagnose anyone on any day if its newer than '93 but this isn't his area of expertise. My father is an experianced engine builder and raced a 1970 Plymouth Satellite with a 340. I will have many questions I hope you folks can answer for me in the future. Thanks,
Ben

You forgot to mention if you now have an 318 or an 360. Or an 2 wheel drive or an four wheel drive.

Do the best "Mud Truck's" use pulling torque or high winding RPM engines ???

Hello, I just joined. I just got a 89 shadow 4 door with 2.2 TBI. Lots of problems with the car but I'll just fix it one thing at a time. The car has 177000 miles on it and the rats got to the wiring under the hood.

Thanks

I got an 81 Horizon for my first car with 69000 miles (this post is dated May 2, 2005). So far i replaced both front coil springs and am fighting with the carb to get the car to stop stalling... thats in a topic on the Horizon / Omni board. Anyway its gonna get a new exhaust cause its got a hole in the muffler and besides that ive just done small stuff like i bled the brakes, oil change, trans-fluid / filter, and its gonna get a radiator flush'n'fill soon.

anyway its great for a free car but i just feel a bit slighted on the dependable end

I have owned my 1985 Plymouth Horizon S.E. with 2.2 L, Carb equipped since 2002. In 2005 the electric choke quit working, making for very difficult cold starts! As far as stalling on your car, you may want to tryng opening up the carb and clean it out with carb cleaner. Also make sure your vaccum lines secure, no leaks and ensure carb is securely mounted to the base of the intake manifold. You didnt state what size motor it has, is it a 1.7 VW motor or the Trenton 2.2??

I am getting a 1965 Plymouth Fury III 4dr hardtop = My new/old car project & My 1st MOPAR!!! Trading a 1993 Chevy S10 Tahoe Lt Blazer 4x4 4dr for it.
I will be the 3rd owner, car has a 318 2 bbl, isn't in too bad of shape but she'll need some parts replaced bodywise, & i'd like to maybe find a nice decent 383 for it but for now she'll work with what she has. Once I figure everything out I'll post pics & once she's home I'll start the progress.

Ok,

I'm almost finished, but I think you guys would like to hear about it anyway. Got a free '93 Dak w/ blown 3.9L from my sister-in-law. Dropped a 5.9L magnum from a '99 Ram, (complete w/ tranny) and now I have to finish the wiring (yes, it's a nightmare). I decided to go with the newer OBDII system from the motor because I couldn't find an engine wiring harness for a '93 5.9L. The original harness came with the motor form the junk yard. Got a PCM from a '98 Ram hoping that the program is close enough to work. If it's not I'll have it reprogramed. At first everything seemed to be working out very well. The engine bolted right up to the old mounts (all three Magnum motors are based off of the same block and my buddies 5.2L Dak uses the same mounts as the 3.9L). The exhaust, driveshaft, and all accesories bolted right up. I did have to change out the fuel pump to a non-return type out of a '99 Ram which turned out to be fairly easy once I figured out that I could pull the bed off for 8 bolts and beer for a couple big guys to help lift it. I did have to drill a hole in the (plastic) tank for the overflow tube. It was previously on the fuel pump but is directly in the tank for the '99 Ram. I used half of the return line and half of the feed line to make a complete feed line that would connect directly to the fuel rail line at the fire wall. I also had to fab up the tranny cooler lines which wouldn't have been too bad but I got SS line that is harder than two wood-pecker lips. It was very difficult to flare the ends and I may have to remake them from a softer material to get a good seal. All I lack now is rewiring the chassis harness to plug into the '99 Ram power distribution box and fill her up with fluids. If anyone out there is doing this same swap, contact me with any questions. It's not too bad a swap and would have been easier if I had got a 5.9L out of a '93.

All told, I have less than $2000 in the truck so I can't complain too much. My next project will be an iron block V-10 in a 97 or newer Dak. Can you say "Death trap"?

Hey there, I have a 71 340 Duster Twister. B-5 Blue with white stripes, duel scoops, auto tranny, 323 gears in a posi rear. Also down in North Carolina I have a 71 Dodge Demon. It is at Central Pedmont Comm. College being worked on as a school project. This one is Jet Black,440, auto tranny. It was a six cylinder a birth but has taken steroids. I need to find an 8 3/4 rear for it. Is there any books out there that will give all the years that parts will interchange with the 71. (not counting the body metal) I am told that a dodge aspen power stearing box will interchange with it for example. Thanks for any help you can give.

OK folks, here's the deal ... I'm doing a '74 W200 Crew Cab shortbox build and a buddy of mine has the frame and running gear for the same truck. He's offered it to me, but I already have one. So, I got the idea of making it a club cab longbox ...... does anyone know if this will work?????? The wheelbase is 150". All help will be appreciated greatly.

I'm currently fixing up a 1970 Dodge Polara. Almost through with it. It has a .383 ci with a two barrel carb. I have to adjust the carb and fix one of the seats and put a paint job on it, and she'll be ready. As soon as I'm able, I will post a pic on here!
Do you stil have the 1970 Polara?

I have a friend here in Adelaide, South Australia and he has a 1970 Polara and would love better brakes. What did you come up with?

I took a big block motor out of a giant camper van and stuck it in my '78 Adventurer pickup. I got some aftermarket fenders off a parts truck. I got some nice doors off a 77 military truck with 23,000 DOCUMENTED miles(it's my plow truck for my driveway). Hoping to do the body this winter.

Hi, I'm restoring a 1951 M37 Dodge Power Wagon, Canadian Version. About 3 years into it, Frame is sand blasted and painted, Engine is rebuilt and almost ready to start putting the rolling chassis back together. This Truck was used up until 1991.. then parts were raped from it. Hard to get parts living this far North... bushings for axles, 24V distributor, waterproof plugs/wires and a tailgate are a couple things I'm looking for. A few things I plan on doing different are replacing the bed with wood strips and wrapping the steering wheel with wood and instead of using oak for the sides I'll match them with the Maple planned for the rest mentioned. The body will be painted close to original olive drab but the fenders/rockers/bumpers will be flat black. Lots of work to do yet but will be worth it in the end. All I can say is no one builds trucks like this anymore... there are a few things on this truck that companies don't offer to date.

Since I just joined a couple of months ago, I guess I should post my project. This is a replacement for my "T2K-CAR" (my avatar is the Virginia plate for it), a 1985 LeBaron Mark Cross convertible. Car was built with a 2.6L Mitsubishi engine with a feedback carb. I fought with computer problems from day one of acquiring it in 2003. System would stay in full lean mode most of the time in trying to accelerate, I finally got a non-feedback carb and used it until I developed the Mitsubishi curse, a cracked head, 3 of the 4 combustion chambers were cracked. After pricing a used, condition unknown head and an exchange head I was in the scrap it or powertrain swap it. I had traded an early Dell laptop for an Turbo engine and transmission from a 1987 LeBaron sedan, the salvage yard that had it thoughtfully wrote my name on the windshield with "no parts for sale" so I could take my time removing stuff from it.

When I pulled the powertrain, the engine was filthy, lots of oil all over the timing belt area, so I wasn't sure what I had, but have owned a turbocharged car previously I wanted the turbo setup. Upon cleaning, I discovered I had a rare beast, a 1988 Turbo II long block service replacement, block is dated 1-8-88 and has the unique to 1988 crank sprocket and pulley. After fixing the oil leak and doing a tear down and refresh on it and beefing up the A-413, it was "game on". A friend had given me a 1987 Turbo II 2 piece intake and fuel rail (no injectors) I score a 1989 Garret Turbo II turbocharger on eBay and found a set of 2.5L turbo injectors (same as T2). I drove the car, complete with a Mopar Performance program in the logic module until February 2009 when a Mercedes-Benz ML320 tried mating with it and destroyed the right rear corner.

I had purchased a 1986 convertible from the same yard the engine came from for parts, so I saved everything salvageable from the 1985 car. Between getting ready for retirement and moving to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, along with some major rework on my 1986 F350, the project got put on the back burner. It is underway now. I have adapted a 1989 LeBaron coupe dash as the K car choices were minimal gauges or a not super accurate digital unit, I have revamped the power distribution from fusible links to a 1996 Stratus PDC which replaced all the fusible links and the relays. In order to address a problem with adequate cooling for the A/C condensor due to the intercooler radiator, I have fitted a modified Ford Contour dual fan system in front of the condensor using the low and high speed fan relays and fuse in the Stratus PDC. My main problems currently are needing the floor replaced (found a pristine, blown engine Reliant as a donor) and getting the engine electronics straight (I going to a 1990/91 SBEC). I have apparently manged to get something crossed up in the wiring to the 60 way connector and damaged two of them. All wiring is sorted now, and a TBI SBEC will work the controls as far as turning on the system and triggering the coil, neither turbo SBEC will work, so I am searching for a good used one that I can socket for my custom programmed chip.

Shane, I drove one of those many miles in the Marine Corps, ours were Marine Corps Green rather than Olive Drab. Neat trucks, 62 mph on the governor and transfer case whine drowning out conversation going down US 17 from SE Virginia to Camp LeJeune North Carolina.
