I took my stock fan out and used the shroud to put in my summit fan. I say it has twice the ccf without looking. Less amps and more air was the reason i got it.

The stock shroud covers 7/8 of the radiator.

Do i need to fill that gap that the shroud does not cover? The top is good and the bottom. Just the pass side is visible.

The fan is about 4 inches from touching the radiator. It does slightly pull air from the engine bay on the gap side.

So does a shroud need to create a vacuum with the fan or is the fan strong enough that a little slop wont matter?

My shroud only covers 2/3 of the radiator; the overflow jug blocks the rest. It cools just fine.

do you have ac? They tried to say that at idle the gap is not enough for ac.

I will close the gap, sadly its 90 out. Why do things go wrong when its 90 out and not 70

Yes, I have A/C, and it works fine. The true test is to measure the vent temperature of the A/C, the coolant temperature, and the A/C system pressures. If they're all good, the fan setup is fine.

The fan should be pulling air into the engine compartment, not blowing the air from the inside of the compartment out. It's as simple as switching the polarity on the wires if that's not the case.
I'm curious-- is the fan itself the same size as the factory unit? I assume that it is, but, to take it to an extreme, if you put in a very small fan, say 6" diameter, you're only going to be pulling air through a piece of the radiator a little bigger than the diameter of the new fan unless you have a VERY good (and long) shroud, even if the CFM ratings on the fans are the same.
I have A/C and a similar setup to Bob, and I have very cold air too. I don't think there's an issue with the fan, and a little bit of a gap in the shroud certainly isn't going to cause loss of A/C.

I think he meant that the airflow was the right direction, but that if the shroud isn't tight against the radiator, some air at the edges is pulled in from the 'engine side' of the radiator instead of flowing through the radiator fins; and that this air is a little hotter. But that effect is really marginal.

yes that. same thing when you put your fan in the window of your house. some air is from outside some air is from the inside that goes through because the fan is not sealed to the window.
I pretty much cut out the stock fan and put the summit fan in its place. Nothing really changed.
I rigged some aluminum on the open side to seal it up. Now the only air comes from the front.
