Good Question!
I hadn't ever realized there was a difference between AWD and RWD wheels. Every FWD car I can think of has very little, or even positive backspacing. My Stratus is +42mm.
It must be something to do with the axles. Maybe space required for the CV joints? Maybe something with the steering geometry?
