I recall (and agree with) Dave Z's analysis that WK buyers are a little different, but are generally in the place where FCA is trending the rest of their vehicle lineup - higher end.

That being said, I'm starting to wonder if the entry WL will have have a Hurricane engine, and where it fits in the 2020 FCA lineup Cherokee (the refresh will have Hurricane, as an option) and three row Chrysler SUV.

Starting to think that the refreshed Cherokee will lose the 3.6L V6, entry level will be the existing 2.4, and the upgraded option will be the Hurricane.

WL will come with Hurricane standard, lose the V6 entry, but the V6 will be an option to upgrade to.

What really confuses me is the powertrain option future for the Durango/three row Chrysler SUV. And the supposed Dodge SUV based on the Giulia.

Thoughts?

Next Wrangler Yes, Next Cherokee Yes , And in the New Compass, Yes.
But I Don't "Know" About the WL .
Now the Questions: What Engine Plants will Produce the "H" Engine?
And at What Volumes ?

As previously posted, this goes for all vehicles.

Hurricane replaces Pentastar
Tornado replaces Eagle
Apache and Hellcat will live on for specific vehicles.

More diesels, hybrids, and electric power will come too. This will take time, it won’t happen overnight.

Thanks Mike. WL should have a pretty healthy increase in MPG.

Mike, is 100% correct. 5.7L and Pentastar stays in certain vehicles until 2021. Those products will transition to the new engines...

As far as I know, Hurricane will be built at the current four cylinder plant for the time being.

It’s going to be a long process. A lot of those details are still very much up in the air.

We could have another thread devoted to a car nobody would buy. Just doesn't fit here :)

Due to the timing and cost issues, I would expect Cherokee to have the 2.0 Hurricane — maybe late or limited availability — with entry level 2.4 and top level 3.6. It may still have the 3.2 but I don’t see why they’d want to keep that level of complication, just to avoid a relatively minor engineering change. Only the Cherokee has the 3.2! Get a nice 30-40 hp boost from going to the 3.6.

What will the Hurricane do in the Cherokee? I suspect they would use the “economy tune” — maybe 260 hp. The V6 would be a luxury option for those who gotta have six cylinders. Likewise they could keep the 3.2 and make the Hurricane the top engine.

Long term, I do expect the V6 Cherokee to die out.

I found a bunch of dart srt arguments. Hurricane srt would be ok if we had a good selling vehicle to use?
2022 or 2023 (lifetime away) for a Dodge based RWD midsize sedan based on Giulia (Giulia 2.0 will follow two years later). This is if everything works out perfectly - sales/profits are through the roof for every other vehicle from now until then.

This is the lowest item on the totem poll internally for new vehicles.

I guess I don't get what the big secret is about what plant/plants will make this engine. To me, when nothing at all is talked about plant wise points to me to indicate plants other then North American plants will at least be the source initially. The current crop of 4 cylinder engines available to N/A customers can't disappear soon enough. How you can manufacture one of the best V6 and V8 engines in the world and have such a lackluster inline 4 is beyond me.

That may hurt the Cherokee's differentiation from the Compass. A lot of consumers are hard pressed to know how many cylinders are under the hood now, let along the differences between sizes/output. I guess that's no different from back in the 80's when it was all 4's and 6's though.

Just search "Dart SRT" in the top right corner of your screen.
I have spoke to Ralph in the past when SRT was working on the Dart variant and what powertrains they were trying to SHOE HORN into the lil car. LOL Give it to Ralph Gillis in seeking to shorn horn a Hemi engine into that little space.
