FCA is recalling a small number of 2005 Dodge Dakota pickups , because their optional heated seats can develop dangerous hot spots. The fix is to swap in a new heating control, for free.

The recall (Chrysler #T80, NHTSA #17V-820) starts on February 8, 2018. Just 16,900 Dakotas were built with the problem parts.

The 2005 Dakota , despite its ungainly looks, was a good seller; the company sold over 100,000 Dakotas in 2005, in the United States alone. Sales dropped below 80,000 the next year, though, to around 50,000 in 2007 and fewer than 30,000 in 2008.
