The instructions come with the update, which for me came on a USB stick. Basically, you first make sure the BIOS is up to date, and if not, update it. Then you plug the USB stick into the radio and follow the instructions on the screen. Key will be in the ON position the entire time.

 

Yep. The package came with a micro SD card, USB 2.0 adapter, and very thorough instructions. It was a bit of back & forth from the PC and U-Connect website to the vehicle (activation code, software update, etc.), but the whole process took about an hour. The actual map update to the radio was the biggest chunk of time...about 35 minutes for me. Overall it was a pretty easy effort and worked without issue.

 

Based on a YouTube video on updating the system software I stuck a memory stick in the remote USB port in the glove box, not the one on the 430N faceplate. Push the phone symbol button on the steering wheel and say a command. The unit does not recognize a memory stick in the remote USB port. I tried this also with the USB / SD card and same problem.
I have been using a Garmin with lifetime maps and traffic for several years to supplement the 430N. So much easier to update the Garmin.
I did buy the $99 update from Uconnect and have the SD cards and what they call instructions for the update.

Make sure that your 430N is at the latest revision, then try the download.
