Jeep was late to the seven passenger game 10 years ago...... Now every week new players are entering the 7 passenger SUV market.

In the premium market BMW just put down the gauntlet

Lincoln Navigator is back and badder than ever.......

down market......Kia and Hyundai have gotten into the game

Honda Pilot is back and Subaru is now a player.......

My point is that if Jeep the SUV brand wants some of this action it better get with it......

Except they didn't. They didn't force one iota of Wagoneer into the design. Maybe people are bitter because they've been teasing SJ designs all the way up until the release, that maybe they expected it to have.. Something from the original.. maybe just something other than the grille crown and the name?

The side view with its chunky pillars was reminding me of something, and it finally hit me what it was: The second-generation Isuzu Trooper. My mom had one of those, I thought it was a great-looking truck. (Pic here if you need a reminder...I'm not saying they're identical twins.)

Now that I've had time to think about it, the blacked-out pillars make it look a bit too much like a Lincoln or GM SUV. I think that would've been the "me-too" direction. The body-colored pillars telegraph "ruggedness"...which, fair enough, some people may feel is incompatible with "premium".

Ideally, Jeep would just offer different trim levels with and without blacked-out pillars, and let customers buy their preference. That or put the blacked-out pillars on Grand Wagoneer, and leave the body-colored pillars for Wagoneer.

Edit: Also, I think this would have gone over better if they had chosen any color other than white for this reveal.

Curious to what this button does.. seems to be a window switch (possibly tailgate) but had seen reporting that they weren’t able to incorporate an opening window on the tailgate due to width.. View attachment 30111
Turns out it's just to show/hide the screen. Gilles confirmed no such design to roll down the tailgate. It was a BS reason, if you ask me, since toyota still does it in their less-expensive SUVs too.. its one of the reasons I feel like it was design by committee. I think the roll down window or a clamshell tailgate would be more appreciated than a giant melt-your-head sunroof of doom. lol

Just out of curiosity, what do competing vehicles have in terms of the rear hatch? Navigator, Escalade, QX80, etc? I honestly don't know, I don't pay a lot of attention to this segment. But I would think that with a vehicle this big, a split tailgate is almost a necessity.

My own car (Mitsubishi Outlander) is one that evolved from a split tailgate to a conventional liftgate. Same platform, but the last heavy refresh (2008 I believe) changed the squared-off back end with split tailgate to the rounder, sleeker version they have now. I liked the idea of the split tailgate, but it's my understanding that they axed it due to NVH and weight issues (which are pretty important factors, admittedly).

Could The Jeep® Grand Wagoneer Tow Beyond 10,000 LBS? - Mopar Insiders
Jeep officially said that when the production version of the Grand Wagoneer arrives next year, it will have “unmatched towing capability”. So if the Ford Expedition and the unibody-based Dodge Durango both within a few hundred of the 9,000 lb. towing rating, it wouldn’t surprise us by Jeep’s statement if the production version of the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer has a 10,000+ towing capacity when properly equipped. This would allow the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer to tow around a 26-foot travel trailer with gear and family loaded up in the vehicle.
While the concept vehicle boasted an unknown plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, we can confirm that the Grand Wagoneer Concept did feature the famed Quadra-Drive® II 4×4 system and Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System with five drive modes (Rock, Sand/Mud, Auto, Snow, and Sport) from the Grand Cherokee.
I though we are getting QD3 :). Hope they added more enhancement to the current QD2.
The Grand Wagoneer Concept also the Quadra-Lift air suspension. Quadra-Lift features full-time four corner load leveling and can change the ride height of the vehicle with the push of a button. The system is a closed type air suspension design, that results in faster ride height changes.
