So after the stock fell several days last week, Sergio has again put himself out there to talk about deals.
Sort of soft denials of deals and the need for them, but enough speculation about possible deals to get the stock moving up again. We one somewhat cynical, they might think Sergio is trying to manipulate the stock price:

I don't see anything inconsistent here. SM has a vision. He clearly understands what isn't going to work well. Obviously, his prerogatives include growing Alfa, FIAT, Maseratti, Jeep, and FCA(and its collaterals) until he retires. And it's not his first rodeo.;)

As I have said a hundred times before, he is look for more of an alliance than a merger. An alliance would cut cost of future powertrains, architectures and development and save the company billions as well as making them in a better position to bring products to market quicker. DSM (Diamond Star Motors) was a prime example of this. Chrysler and Mitsubishi had a long beneficial relationship with one another. But it lead to some wonderful products and powertrains over the years.

Oh boy another merger/alliance thread!! Owwwwww...I feel like an ice pick just went through my left nostril up into my brain. Yeah...just like that. o_O:confused:

.. I think this is the first time where I don't listen to the plans, ideas, etc, and just see what comes, because Sergio.. likes to talk. lol

Diamond Star worked for a bit. It was more diamond then star IMHO. What's the current result? A closed factory. An alliance is a tricky deal to procure and more times then not the benefits one side more then the other. Could an alliance with Hyundai work? Sure. Would each company be willing and honest to open up the books so the other one can look? I doubt it.

His spiel on EV’s certainly won’t help him, Bahaahaa! Classic!
I agree with him 100%. It’s all a money game, but he don’t seem to want to get onto this segment. It’s not cheap, no doubt. So, yes, I guess he’s looking for someone else to team up with to push this BS through for awhile at least. When you’re a salesman, “More money than brains” is always a good motto!

Definitely not a total denial

Well we better watch JEEP and RAM

For each quote of Sergio saying that he is not interested in selling, one can find another stating the exact opposite. And we on here pick the quotes we like and dismiss those we don't, and sit tossing quotes at each other trying to prove what by now is unprovable.

With the nonstop barrage of contradicting statements, the only thing one can conclude at this point is a wide number of afflictions, ranging from a mild case of a loose tongue, to a serious case of lack of vision, to a more severe case of multiple personality disorder.

Dr. Phil.

...or a case of obsessive/compulsive disorder on the part of certain Allpar members who feel the need to bring up the topic over and over when there's really nothing new. I agree that there is lot's that may seem contradictory or another way of looking at is that Sergio's perspective has never changed. He'll do a deal if it's right. That deal hasn't come along and so FCA marches on in it's current form.

I guess we know who decided my (meant to be humorous) comments represented them. Sorry guys wasn't meaning to seriously attack anyone's mental state. I find it easiest to just relax and let some of the chatter by Sergio go. It feels like we really struggle to do that on Allpar at times and are poster children for beating dead horses.

Look at the vehicles in the past two model years that have been sold have had global architecture done by joint ventures...

GM Fiat Small Architecture
Image

2015 to Present Jeep Renegade (BU)

Image

2017 to Present Jeep Compass (MP)

Image

2015 to Present Ram ProMaster City (VM)

Mitsubishi GS Architecture

Image

2007 to 2017 Jeep Patriot (MK74) and 2007 to 2017 Jeep Compass (MK49)

Image

2008 to Present Dodge Journey (JC)

Shared Mercedes SUV architecture

Image

2011 to Present Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2)

Image

2011 to Present Dodge Durango (WD)

Shared Mercedes Car Architecture

Image

2011 to Present Chrysler 300 (LX)

Image

2011 to Present Dodge Charger (LD) and 2011 to Present Dodge Challenger (LA)

FCA and PSA Peugeot Citroen shared Commercial Van Architecture

2014 to Present Ram ProMaster (VF)

So as you can see a lot of the lineup at FCA US has been developed thanks to joint ventures... this does not include the CUSW platform which debuted as a joint venture by Fiat and Chrysler because the two were not merged at the time but I kept that out of the list.

Exor/Agnelli/FCA would need to have a controlling interest in Hyundai/Kia, Honda, Mazda, or something close to that. It would need to be an established automaker - needing a cash-infusion or a partner (in a bad way) so that they could continue doing what they do best. Otherwise, there is no viability(for FCA).

We have already seen what sharing a platform looks like(FIAT 124). While a lot of us are fans here, the rest of the world just sees a "Fiata." So- that - alone isn't gonna cut it.

Sergio has said as much. And he values the brands, he has, to grow the company. They all have their important contribution.

One of the problems of several articles is that they report only part of sentences and too many times they do not write what the question was, infact many of the phrases are short responses to questions made by journalists or financial analysts.

Maybe someone would prefer that Sergio Marchionne or John Elkann to not answer questions by journalists or financial analysts.

Strange none posted here something about what John Elkann said last week.

You mean this maybe ? ;)

John Elkann: "Non c'è alcuna intenzione di vendere la nostra quota di Ferrari!" (at https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/john-elkann-non-ce-alcuna-intenzione-di-vendere-la-nostra-quota-di-ferrari-961778/ )

All I remembered about him, it's when he said this:
"When I see a Range Rover on the street, my blood boils, because we should be able to do a thing like that. And we will.”

Hope this will happen in the near future.
Make it real Sergio.
Land Rover reliability makes Jeep's look stellar; you rarely see Land Rovers on the trails any more. And it charges stratospheric prices for one-twelfth the volume Jeep sells in N.A. Land Rover is a has-been brand kept alive by swanky styling and paparazzi shots of the royal family.

The day Marchionne turns Jeep into Land Rover I'll buy something else.

I think we have known this here for some years.

That is why the next CEO will not be free to change too much......Marchionne will still be looking over his/her shoulder.

If......God forbid......the apocalypse includes the detonation of one or more EMP devices......all the hate (from whatever source)....will all be for nothing.

* Electrical grid fried
* Internet (including Allpar) fried
* Almost all cars built after the 1970's.....fried......Right back to the days of horses and carts.
* Electronic devices (with the probable exception of vacuum tube radios......provided you have some electricity to run it).....fried

And besides......hate can be so tiring. Ever tried to stay angry with a friend or loved one you've ever had an argument with? Hard to stay angry......isn't it?

My apologies for this straying slightly off topic.

An EMP (assuming from a nuclear warhead detonation in space) is not as god awful Armageddon as it sounds. Don’t believe the hype. First off, not a ton is absolutely known about this. Lots of Data is based purely on calculations. There is also lots of data generated from nuclear tests. No nuclear tests have been done in the US since 1992, so any data from that is very old. The US Navy has the most data on emp’s, their ships are built (an tested) to survive them.

The grid is a lot more robust than it was then. As green tech takes over (solar, wind, etc) the centralized (and therefore more vulnerable) nature of the grid is diminished and spread over a wider electrical and geographic area.

As somewhat of an expert... on my personal List-of-Poopies-to-Be-Worried about, an EMP goes about level with being probed by Schwartzennennenennaggarraaar’s Predator.

Fiat a nightmare for Chrysler, they are killing Chrysler with those Fiats

Why don't they stay in Italy, who needs them, who needs Alfas???
