We might have a new challenge with the Ram

With a new grill design, more chrome, and 5 inches tall letters in the tailgate it will be interesting to see the consumers reaction, what's your opinion?

I am not a fan of it personally. I think it is too garish looking. But I have always preferred subtle looks when it comes to chrome usage, so I might not be the best judge. And I am hardly in the market, unless they find a way to make a SB RC Ram 1500 AWD with the Hellcat....

To quote one of my favorite movie lines.

"Hes so hot right now that he could take a crap, wrap it in tinfoil, put a couple of hooks on it and sell them as earrings to the Queen"

Meaning in this case, it doesn't matter what Ford looks like, they have that built in momentum and history. Dodge is getting there, and perhaps has more than GM at the moment, but Ford could ( and has! ) build a complete turd, and it would still sell well....

I wish them luck, but this change of style comes from something deeper.

Personally, when I am in the market, I will wait until I see it in person. I really dislike the look of the new grills. I dislike the letters.

When I get it (Ram R/T), if it has those things. I willl look for other solututions. I have a few friends in the Low Rider/Hot Rod community that owe me, so I would likely go them. I would look at having them do a custom grill, that looks factory and custom all at the same time. I'd have them do something with the badging and the tailgate, too.

I would definitely have them do some custom badging, all of which would say "DODGE". IF it had the regular cross hair grill, I would likely do nothing (except for the badging, I would turn it back into a Dodge Truck).

I was a truck buyer for many years, owning '93, '96, '99, '02, '05, and '07 Dodge pickups. I would love a new Dakota, but they don't make one. The full-sized truck - not just Ram, but all of them collectively - has moved beyond what I find useful. It's too big. It's too expensive. It's overkill for most buyers. The general trend has also been to large, gaudy grilles and huge badges, again not just with Ram but all of the trucks. I wouldn't be caught dead in one. If I ever needed a truck all those badges would have to go before I drove it home from the dealership.

Yup. The debadging business will be picking up.......

On that note I passed a fairly new Ram 2500 6.4L this morning. The owner had "Dodge Ram" painted on the tailgate. Very nicely done. Better than huge RAM lettering on the tailgate.

He also had a "One Less Prius" sticker on the window. :D

I was a bit shocked at first, but the more I see it, the more it grows on me.

Ram is getting its own look, branding and differentiation from Chrysler and Dodge.

As I predicted, I think one of the hopes is to sell off Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep and keep Ram with Fiat-Alfa to support those dealerships.

I dont dislike the new grill. The lettering i will reserve comment till i see in person. I actually am really not liking the chrome around the current taillights however, seems cheap. The Ram needs to grow and change, i will support change, but they need to commit and not play it safe.

As for the Ford i think they look good, I like the new styling. I do wonder if the coming super duties will be jumping the shark.

Mr Source i feel this has been covered enough already, give us something we can give you feed back on.

I'm not liking it.

I'm not against change, per se. I don't like what I'll call an unearned change. You live with those changes which are generated by regulatory demand. Functional needs, like the old-school Ram-Air modifications caused some unusual impacts on aesthetic styling - and you can easily live with that because you usually had a measurable benefit elsewhere. But unearned, unneeded Jack-a$$ styling changes? NO WAY.

Keeping the trucks separate from Jeep has always mystified me. Just put a 7 slot grille on it already. Power wagons shared the battle field with Jeeps, Ram as a sub brand of Jeep is the one thing that will allow them to blow Ford out of the water. It makes a heck of a lot more sense these days to brand the trucks as Jeeps than it does to brand Fiat car platforms as Jeeps.

Big letters on the rear gate should also be stamped into the sheet metal, not applied after the fact

I think the grille change is to put GMC in place of RAM..

I hope its just the Rebel/Limited grille....

Ram probably thinks people are loyal, they will still buy them...NO !!! I still have a mint '05 and a newer one , so NO I wont buy a ugly grille !!

Ram probably thinks our trucks are so great we can put any grille on it...Guess they didnt hear of the Edsel !

It was just a Ford with ugly grille and tail lights...Change the Grille .. You get an Edsel , this is what the new Grille reminds me of...It just ruins the truck and those over sized Ram letters...Really !!! (my 10 year old niece always says "really" so I thought I would say it too)

I am really thinking its FCA's way to get GM to takeover...tell them you can have Chevrolet Trucks and rename RAM Trucks GMC...so this new Grille makes sense,no crosshair so it doesn't look like a RAM..its a GMC !!!

My thoughts anyways , why else would they do it....

Wasn't it a couple of years back GM made a big push for people not to call "Chevies" Chevies? It wasn't proper. It had to be Chevrolet. Guess they abandoned that since their latest commercials are back to calling them Chevies. Hope the same thing happens with Ram. It's be great if someone produced an aftermarket kit to replace Ram badges with Dodge so die-hard Dodge guys and gals can send a message. Otherwise, just de-badge the truck completely so Ram gets zero visibility and replace the ugly new grille with a 2015 or older crosshair grille.

The only reason Ram was spun off in the first place was because Dodge was going away. But that was cancelled, so now it's not a big deal. The only thing that's changed is the name on the truck, nothing else.

It also makes very little sense for them to sell the only divisions that make the company money. Right now North America is all they got.

Dang, you really do want to ignore everything they said and did.

Ram was spun off, they said, because they wanted Dodge to be sporty in the European tradition, relying on cornering rather than brute force. It turns out that did not work. Dart is proof of both ...

If they were going to drop Dodge, why invest so much in Challenger, SRT, Charger, and Durango updates?

I don't mind the grille, but I think the tailgate emblems are a bit too much. Pretty soon we'll have multi-colored vinyl graphics all over them like the 1970s.

I love the 70 ' s adult toys. I think that is were the Rebel gets it roots and obviously the Powerwagon. The Laramie is for upscale and looks the part with a grille that makes it stand out. Maybe not the best design...and they have definitely shown the Rebel and Laramie grilles are for them only. I really don't get the GMC deal. It sickens me to see the comparison. They have been ram trucks since 1981, Power Ram if 4 wheel drive and then just Ram from 94 on. Chrysler has been owned by so many different people that is any of it really Mopar any more really. But I still feel these are mopar trucks and Ram is what they have always been and you can even still get a Powerwagon...makes me happy.
