The Ram ProMaster City debuts today, after years of anticipation. Originally set to be practically unchanged from the Fiat Doblò on which it’s based, the ProMaster City has numerous changes from the Fiat, including:
- It’s based on the recently-launched Doblò XL rather than the base Doblò, and it’s possible that the XL was only created due to Ram input
- It uses the American 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine, which is far larger than any other Doblò powerplants; that required resizing the front of the vehicle
- The suspension was beefed up for greater durability
- The “skin” and interior were changed
- The ZF nine-speed automatic, made by Chrysler, is the only transmission
